FAQ's
1. How does ART® work?
Answer: ART® works by breaking up and mobilizing unhealthy, fibrotic tissues in the body. Sometimes, due to inflammation, stress, tension etc., tissues will become adhered to other tissues (e.g. muscles adhered to other muscles or nerves adhered to fascia). Through a combination of pressure and tension by the practitioner and movement (usually active) on the part of the client, these adhesions are resolved and fibrotic tissue and scar tissue are broken up. This affords the body a full range of motion and allows for restoration of strength and function.
2. How does P-DTR® work?
Answer: P-DTR® deals with the various sensory receptors (proprioceptors) of the body and the way they affect and modify our movement patterns. These receptors (those for pain, stretch, pressure, hot, cold, vibration, etc.) all send information to the brain for processing and the brain takes this feedback into account when making decisions regarding our movement. If this information is incorrect, as is often the case, the brain is making its decisions based on bad information. Pain and dysfunction frequently result. P-DTR® uses neural challenges specific to the involved receptors and muscle tests combined with proper stimulation of the deep tendon reflex to make immediate and lasting advances toward restored function.
3. How does NKT® work?
Answer: NeuroKinetic Therapy® works by communicating with the motor control center of the brain. Most musculoskeletal pain is caused by imbalances of neurological origins wherein some muscles are overactive, while others are inaccessible by the brain. Using manual muscle testing, the neuromuscular patterns governing these movements are accessed in the brain's motor-control center and can be “edited” for greater efficiency. This process allows NKT® to yield faster and longer-lasting results than many other techniques.

5. What can I do to maximize results with Bowen Therapy®?
Answer: Bowen is a simple, yet very powerful technique. Your job, post-treatment, is to not get in the way of the healing process. As such, Bowen offers several recommendations both for the day of treatment and the days between treatments. They are as follows:
limiting benefits. If you received jaw work, avoid hard or difficult to chew foods.
4. Avoid extreme heat or cold. No heating pads, ice packs, hot showers or hot baths. The circulatory fluctuations can hinder the work.
car, etc. This can help to start restoring balance to your body, particularly in your pelvis.
6. Avoid sitting for more than 30 minutes at a time without getting up. This can destabilize the pelvis during the crucial setting-in period of the work.

6. How long does it take to see results?
Answer: For all modalities, progress is usually noticeable after the very first visit, though for some individuals, it can take as many as three visits to notice significant results. Generally speaking... the older the issue, the longer it will take to correct. Some issues simply take time. As I often tell my clients, it took you a while to get our body like this, expect it to take a while to get it back to normal.

7. How long do results usually last?
Answer: It depends… an unsatisfying answer, I know. It depends on what led to the imbalances in the first place. If they are of acute origins; that is, they were caused by an isolated incident or by a stress (either physical or psychological) that is no longer a factor, than results should last indefinitely. After all, you've been reprogrammed. However, if the imbalances are due to a repetitive stress, say, sitting in front of a computer all day, then maintenance of results will require diligent effort on the part of the client. That being said, results generally are permanent.

8. How long are sessions?
Answer: Sessions are 50 minutes on average. If you only want to be Kinesio taped (e.g. for a sporting event), sessions are 25 minutes. In the case of P-DTR®, the work is so powerful, clients will often reach their neurological limit (something verifiable through testing) shy of the 50 minute mark. To continue beyond this point is counterproductive and sometimes dangerous. With Bowen, it is not uncommon for the client to experience an intense "processing" reaction during the session such as sweating, light-headedness or even a strong emotional response. These are signals that the body has had all it can take for the moment. In these circumstances, I will end the session early.

9. How much do sessions cost?
Answer: Sessions are currently priced at $110 per session for all manual therapies, or $45 for Kinesio taping alone. I accept CASH OR CHECK ONLY. Sorry, no credit cards at this time. Sessions are pay-as-you-go.

10. Do you accept insurance?
Answer: I don’t accept insurance directly, though I will happily provide you with an invoice in the style of your choosing for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. My work is generally accepted by health savings accounts and many health insurance carriers who cover massage therapy.

11. What is your cancellation policy?
Answer: I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment within 24 hours of your scheduled appointment time, or simply fail to show up to your appointment, that session must be paid for in full.

12. How many sessions will it take to fix my problem?
Answer: Again, this depends. The simpler and more recent the problem, the more likely you’ll be in and out with a minimum of visits. Older problems are another story. The longer one has had a particular neuromuscular imbalance, the more likely it is that that imbalance has led to other imbalances. Generally speaking, when this is the case, only one or two “layers” of these imbalances can be cleared up at a time and the problem must be addressed systematically and progressively. It is not unusual for new or different symptoms to arise soon after a session. This is a result of older layers of imbalances being exposed through the work. This is normal and should not be cause for concern. I recommend clients commit themselves to at least three visits initially. You’ll have an idea by the end of three visits whether or not my work will be the solution for you.
With Bowen Therapy®, the standard protocol is three visits, one week apart, followed by monthly visits. Many problems resolve in those first three sessions, but some issues require additional treatments. Per Tom Bowen's philosophy, the body operates on a 7-day healing cycle after treatment. It is not unusual for the client to continue to process the work over the course of the week. This processing can take many forms... most pleasant, some unpleasant. Rest assured, however, once the processing is completed, the net effect will be a positive one.

13. What should I wear to sessions?
Answer: All sessions are “clothes on” sessions… a comforting idea for many people. Occasionally I’ll ask that a particular item of clothing be adjusted or removed if it’s particularly in the way, though this doesn’t happen often. I recommend wearing workout-type clothes… loose fitting and comfortable. Avoid layers and above all else… NO DENIM! Denim is too stiff to work through and is like kryptonite for a manual therapist's hands. Shorts and a T-shirt are best.

14. What happens during sessions?
Answer: P-DTR® sessions primarily consist of assessments, muscle tests, and neurological challenges. The work is unlike any therapy you've ever experienced. There are no soft-tissue releases in P-DTR®. Pertinent sensory receptors are challenged using various stimuli (vibrating, tapping, rubbing, oscillating, poking, hot-packs, cold-packs, and others) and deep tendon reflexes stimulated. This makes the correction and makes it immediately. You'll feel the difference right away in the strength of the muscle tests and in the tone of the tissue, not to mention the sudden decrease in pain.
NKT® sessions generally consist of four main things: assessments, muscles tests, releases, and corrective exercises. Most clients say the experience feels like a cross between a physical therapy session and a massage therapy session. Note: I AM NOT a physical therapist.
Some of my other techniques, such as Bowen and Craniosacral, can be an entirely different experience. In a Bowen treatment, for example, I perform a series of "moves" on you, then leave the room for a couple minutes to allow the body to "cook" as we say. This "cook" is where the healing begins. Bowen is relaxing and requires little participation from the client. Which type of treatment one receives is determined primarily by which modality I feel fits the particular issue best, though client preference is also considered.

15. How long do I leave the Kinesio tape on?
Answer: The tape will generally start coming off on its own after 3-5 days. Depending on the taping and whether or not pre-tapespray was used, it can last as little as 3 days or as much as a week or more. Normally, the ends of the tape will come up first. This
is normal and doesn't adversely effect the taping. Simply cut off the peeled-away portion. To enhance the longevity of an
application, make sure you don't use any lotions or oils on your skin the day of or night before treatment. If at any point the tape
begins to hurt or irritate the skin, just take it off. This will often happen several days after the application of the tape as the tape has
completed its correction and is no longer necessary.
